10. The Witches' Sabbath — Francisco Goya (1797–1798)
Goya clearly wasn't finished terrifying us.
The Witches' Sabbath depicts the Devil in the form of a giant goat surrounded by witches.
The image is strange, dark, and deeply unsettling.
The goat's enormous black silhouette dominates the scene while the surrounding figures stare toward him.
It's basically a satanic gathering before satanic gatherings became a staple of horror movies.
