Technically, The Scream isn't a horror painting.

But let's be honest.

Have you looked at it?

Edvard Munch's famous figure standing on a bridge, clutching their face while appearing to scream into an orange-and-red sky has become one of the most recognizable images in the history of art.

The distorted landscape and almost skeletal appearance of the central figure create a sense of existential terror.

There's no monster.

No blood.

No killer.

Just pure, overwhelming dread.

And honestly, that might be even scarier.
