The Song Wasn't Just a WWII Relic
One of the most interesting things about “Blood on the Risers” is that it didn't disappear when World War II ended.

That's quite an achievement for a song whose central message is essentially:
“Make sure your parachute works.”
The song's continued life also demonstrates how military traditions can survive long after the circumstances that created them have changed.
New generations of soldiers can inherit an old song, sing it in an entirely different era, and still understand the basic joke.
Because fear doesn't really require a specific decade.
Neither does dark humor.
