The Game Keeps Changing Without Becoming a Completely Different Game
This might be the most impressive part of Dead by Daylight's longevity.
The game has changed enormously.
But it hasn't lost its identity.
New Killers arrive.
New Survivors arrive.
New perks appear.
Maps change.
Mechanics are adjusted.
Balance patches happen.
Events come and go.
Crossovers introduce new characters.
And yet you can still recognize the game that launched in 2016.
That is an incredibly difficult balancing act.
Many long-running games eventually become so overloaded with features that they barely resemble the experience that made people fall in love with them.
Dead by Daylight has largely managed to avoid that fate.
The basic nightmare remains:
Four people need to escape. One person wants them dead.
Everything else is seasoning.
Some of that seasoning is blood.
