The Developers Know What They're Doing
IllFonic isn't exactly new to asymmetrical horror.
The studio previously worked on Friday the 13th: The Game, and the experience of creating that game clearly carries over here.
The goal with Halloween appears to be creating what the developers describe as a slasher sandbox—essentially allowing players to create their own horror-movie scenarios inside Haddonfield.
That's an important distinction.
This isn't simply:
Michael chases four people.
It's:
Michael hunts four people while those four people attempt to manipulate the environment, rescue other residents, locate escape routes, gather equipment and survive long enough to stop him.
Every match has the potential to become its own little Halloween movie.
And unlike the actual movies, you can't blame the screenwriter when your character makes a terrible decision.
That's all you.
