So Which Lovecraftian Game Is Actually the Best?
If you want pure Lovecraft, start with Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.
If you want modern Lovecraftian horror, try The Sinking City.
If you want atmosphere and helplessness, play Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
If you want cosmic horror wrapped in fishing, play DREDGE.
If you want psychological suffering with an RPG, play Darkest Dungeon.
If you want something completely bizarre, try World of Horror.
But if you want the game that arguably captures the spirit of Lovecraftian horror better than anything else?
It's still Bloodborne.
Because Bloodborne doesn't simply tell you that there are ancient gods beyond human comprehension.
It makes you discover them.
And that's the secret to great Lovecraftian horror.
The scariest thing isn't seeing the monster.
It's realizing that you've been looking at the wrong thing the entire time.
