The Community Gets to Become Part of the Journey

There is also something uniquely satisfying about following an indie project alongside other people.

A development video can become a miniature community event.

People discuss what they have seen.

They speculate about where the game might be going.

They notice details the developer may not even realize people have noticed.

They suggest ideas.

They ask questions.

They cheer when something particularly cool appears.

And, inevitably, somebody notices a tiny detail in the background and announces that it is definitely evidence of a 47-part conspiracy involving the game's villain, the moon and possibly a haunted toaster.

That's the internet.

But that interaction can be genuinely valuable.

Indie development doesn't have to be a creator working in complete isolation while everybody else waits outside the door.

The audience can become part of the journey.
