The Amityville Horror (1979)
The Amityville Horror is a classic haunted-house movie that turns a seemingly perfect family home into a place of growing terror. After moving into their new house, the Lutz family begins experiencing strange occurrences that become increasingly disturbing as the supernatural forces inside the house seem to take control.
The film's greatest strength is its atmosphere. Rather than constantly throwing monsters at the audience, it slowly builds tension through strange noises, unsettling imagery, sudden changes in behavior, and the feeling that something is watching from the shadows. James Brolin and Margot Kidder help ground the story with convincing performances as a couple whose dream home quickly becomes a nightmare.
