The People Under the Stairs (1991)
Wes Craven's The People Under the Stairs is a wonderfully bizarre blend of horror, dark comedy, and social commentary. The story follows young Fool as he breaks into the home of a seemingly respectable family and discovers that the house is hiding something much more terrifying than a few stolen treasures.
What makes the movie so memorable is its sheer weirdness. The creepy house, masked siblings, sinister parents, and people trapped beneath the floorboards create an unforgettable nightmare that can be genuinely frightening one moment and darkly funny the next. Craven also sneaks in plenty of clever commentary without letting it overwhelm the fun.
